On our fifth day of Boys State we chanted at morning colors. Further in the day we were split into country conventions where our delegates passed the bills onto the state legislature. We then headed outside and participated in a really cool video that will eventually be posted on this very website to show future classes how great of an experience we have had this year. We then moved onto our state conventions where the two parties elected their nominees for class of 2025 UBS. Then all of us boys got sent off to all of our sports/activities. Today is the last day of these and will be the competition day where one city will take the victory in each category. Bigbie is having the best time here at UBS!!
Wednesday Happening in Bigbie…
On our Fourth day of Boys State, we started the day strong with morning colors, and each city presented its jingle. We then moved on to our county general elections, where the county officials were elected. Once we had our officials, we went into our City Caucus, where we split into our two parties and narrowed our bill options down to eight. Later, the two parties came together, and we narrowed the bills to four. These bills will be presented to the Utah Boys State Legislature and possibly the Utah Legislature. The authors of these bills are currently working on the finishing touches. We were then released to our sports/activities. Bigbie City has had a great time so far at Utah Boys State and can’t wait for what else is in store for us.
Tuesday Happening in Bigbie…
On our Third day of Boys State, we boys are all having a great time and finding our grooves. We started the day strong with the County convention. In this, Bigbie joined Stromness in Huntsman County and split into two parties: the Nationalists and the Federalists. During the convention, each party selected its nominees for the county elections. We then went on to hear a seminar about scholarships, where we all got quite the laugh out of Omar and Deb, and of course learned some valuable information regarding “free” money. After lunch, we went into a caucus meeting where we worked on developing our ideas that will soon be turned into bills and be voted on. As we adjourned our meeting, it was now time for something we have all been looking forward to: the athletics, choir, and news writing. All of us Boys had previously signed up for what we wanted to work on in during this time. From 3:00 pm – 5:40 pm, we engaged in fun activities to relax a little. All of us boys had a great time, and we look forward to the rest of the day and what tomorrow holds.
Monday Happening in Bigbie…
Bigbie City has had a very promising first day at Boys State. Everyone is bonding and getting to know each other. Bigbie will be one of the most united cities this year. Their chants and jingles are coming along as well. The mayoral race is getting tight.
