Stephenson city has once again had a quite eventful day.
Wednesday night we had a super amazing flag retirement ceremony then went into a general assembly where King Doug Case gave us a lesson on popular sovereignty and what the colonists went through. We then took a mini Kahoot quiz to test on knowledge of general civics.
Wednesday morning we got all of our essays done and then went into a general assembly where a POW from the war in Vietnam gave a speech. The county then went into bills where the elected county leaders chose if we want to pass the bill onto the state house or senate or choose not to. The whole of boys state when went into state party conventions and 3 of our own made it on to our parties ballots. Those 3 where Yamato Lerwill- as Federalist Party state senator, Josiah Webster- as federalist party state senator and Benjamin Chiu – as Nationalist Party treasure, Beckham Kelley- county auditor and Mason Trout- national party clerk.
Wednesday Happening in Stephenson…
Stephenson City had an assembly where Joseph Kerry came as a guest speaker for Boys State. Mr. Kerry is originally from South Korea and is now on the Utah State Board of Education. To finish off the night the city had an amazing presentation by our junior counselor, John Decker. Mr. John Decker is a veteran of the Vietnam War in the late 1960’s early 1970s for two years. He was able to share very amazing stories and memories about his time in Vietnam and shared some pictures he took while on his tour in Vietnam. Everyone in our city enjoyed this as the last activity of the night.
The next morning we had a county general election and a general meeting with the guest speaker on the system of rule and law and the constitution, Mr. Shane Krauser. The city parties then moved a few bills put forward by our citizens to the main city levels after this our city came back together as one to decide what bills would be brought forth to the county election.
Tuesday Happening in Stephenson…
So far, it’s been adventurous. We started out on Monday morning at 6 AM, and by about 7:30, we had our morning meal and were ready to get the day started. We then began our activities with one of many general meetings. During these meetings, we’ve had many amazing guest speakers, such as University President Dr. Brad Mortensen and Weber State political science professor and advisor, Dr. Thomas Kuehls.
After this, we started the election process. The first step was to split into our political parties (Federalist and Nationalist) and select our respective picks for mayor, city council, and city clerk. By the end of the day, we had found out who won, our new mayor was Caleb Wells!
Our city then awoke the next morning to start the day again, beginning with our county convention to figure out our party nominations with our neighboring city as a fellow member of the county. As of now, everyone is able to enjoy their time with sports, and we will hold county-level party primaries tonight.
Monday Happening in Stephenson…
Stephenson City is hitting the ground running on day two! They caucused with their cities, presented phenomenal candidates and elected the beginnings of their City government. Caleb Wells was named the Mayor of Stephenson with Alaxander Thomson as the City’s Clerk. Additionally, the city council consists of Josiah Webster, Gideon Mecham, Yamoto Lerwill, Mason Trout, and Harrison Fowers. Following Mayor Wells’ appointments, Stephenson City will be fully governed by tomorrow morning!
Sunday Happening in Stephenson…
Stephenson city is off to a great start! After settling in to their dorms and socializing for a while, they attended the Boys State Reception and got to meet boys from other cities and discuss their goals for the week. Their city meeting went very well and they are getting well acquainted with each other!
