In times like these, it can often feel as though we are constantly challenged on a daily basis. These summer soldiers and sunshine patriots that do not prepare now will “shrink” when the inevitable conflict arises. In contrast, a true patriot is he that “stands” for truth; so when these challenges arise, he may continually stand for what he believes in, no matter the battle.
The American Legion Boys State provides patriots with the chance to stand for truth. Only when we understand the true value of freedom, will we know how best to protect it. This is where the future leaders of America are born.

If I could give some advice for the next generation of Utah Boys state graduates, it would be this, always remember that when we are frustrated with our government, there will be two types of people. Some will point their finger and blame their problems on others, and another group of people will have discussions and seek out solutions to their problems.
Remember, everything takes time and effort, so if you're looking to achieve something in life.
Open your eyes to all perspectives. When you do this, you will have the ability to understand those around you, allowing you to grow as a person and as a leader. I believe that most people are good and if we work together, we will make our world a better place.
Ever since I've been a wee lad, my mind has been encapsulated by the intricacies. All too often I would find myself glancing at the same book cover, "The Way Things Work." I've always (well maybe not ALWAYS) tried to challenge my beliefs and understand why someone might see something different and how it can add to my interpretation. Some people would call me a nerd given my ability to solve a Rubik's cube and weird library of facts, but, fundamentally, I believe I always need to learn and try new lenses on a path of continuous growth.
Waterford High School
Boys state is something very special, and I feel privileged to be associated with the program. I've always believed that our future will not be dictated by our present actions, but by the actions of our future leaders. I have come to incorporated something I have seen from these peers into my life: a complete open mind. Regardless of circumstance, every person has a unique experience, an experience that when shared contributes to a greater universal understanding that can only bring us closer together. So share your stories with me, and I will readily share my stories as well.
