Your first source of financial help should be your local American Legion Post, however there are a number of creative ways that boys typically find in order to help pay their application fee. Some schools actually have some funding that they use to help their students. If your school has funding but not enough to go around, you can still attend Boys State with other funding. Gather the Boys in your school and have car wash, bake sales or any other revenue producing ideas that you can think of. Visit local merchants and businesses, give them a pitch about why they should help you attend Boys State, oftentimes they will help fund some or all of the fee. Work with your local American Legion Post, perhaps there are some odd jobs that you can help them with. Many boys self-fund through help from parents, grandparents or other relatives.
If you’ve tried all the options that you can reasonably think of and are still short on funds, you can apply in writing to the Boys State Foundation at Mr. Charles Stephenson, P.O. Box 187, Kaysville, UT 84037-0187 or email utahboysstate@gmail.com. Justify your financial position & what actions you’ve already taken and we’ll make every effort to help you. Examples of situations where someone could justify their need for financial assistance are: Single parent or immigrant family households, or boys whose parents are out of work and unable to send their sons, or boys who due to family financial constraints find themselves on a school lunch program.
